Nuclear Test Miniature Medal
The Nuclear Test Medal was established in 2023 and is awarded to UK and international personnel who served at the locations of UK atmospheric nuclear tests between 1952 and 1967, including during the preparatory and clean-up phases. It is also awarded to UK personnel who served at locations where American atmospheric nuclear tests were conducted in 1962. This medal follows the Order of Wear and sits after the Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service, but before the Ebola Medal for Service in West Africa. Qualifying service for the medal is determined by any length of service.
According to the criteria, "eligible personnel" are defined in the following manner.:
(1) Individuals from various nations, along with UK Service and civilian personnel, were involved in the UK atmospheric nuclear tests and their preparatory and clear-up phases from 1952 to 1967.
(2) Nuclear Test Medal for your service at American atmospheric nuclear test locations during Operation DOMINIC in 1962, along with your UK Service and civilian colleagues.
(3) Foreign nationals who served at the locations where the UK atmospheric nuclear tests were conducted, including the preparatory and clear-up phases, between 1952 and 1967.
(4) The medal can be awarded posthumously to the legal next of kin of eligible individuals who have since died.
